OVERCOME THE FEAR OF GETTING KNOCKED DOWN
OCTOBER 01, 2008
It seems to be so easy: "Express your opinion, speak out what you think!" However, it isn't simple at all, since we are afraid of getting knocked down for what we could say, especially if it's something that differs from the common point of view. Therefore we become anxious, and we shut up, whether it's important what we have to say or not.

OVERCOME THE FEAR OF GETTING KNOCKED DOWN

It seems to be so easy: "Express your opinion, speak out what you think!" However, it isn't simple at all, since we are afraid of getting knocked down for what we could say, especially if it's something that differs from the common point of view. Therefore we become anxious, and we shut up, whether it's important what we have to say or not.

In case it isn't crucial what we intended to say, this might be alright. Just in case what we think is relevant to us and others, we aren't satisfied with shutting our mouth. We wish we would dare to speak out our thoughts, but we can't find the courage to overcome our fear of getting knocked down afterwards.

What can we do about it? We obviously need to find a way to overcome the fear of getting knocked down for what we say. Note that we can't just ignore the fear, since it's there in order to tell us that our next step might be new and dangerous. But what do we do when the body's alarm system warns us?
  • Consider the worst case scenario: What's the worst that could happen to you if you spoke up? Could you continue living a valuable life if it actually happened?
  • Find out the reason why you are so scared. Ask yourself if this reason is relevant to your life.
  • Expect to become knocked down for whatever you do. Move on with whatever you wanted to do.
  • Find somebody who is willing to tell you honestly how great you are. Then take a bigger risk.
  • Some people knock you down if you shut up, since they think of it as a clue to shyness and weakness. Thus start speaking out your thoughts in a friendly and polite, but determined way.
  • Remind yourself that getting knocked down and standing up again is the natural learning process.
Don't forget that we never know what will happen after speaking out our thoughts. Situations can take unexpected turns, changes you were longing for might happen suddenly.
Heat up the air and let the resulting energy transform your world into a better one.

SIX WAYS TO ACT IN PRESENCE OF FEAR

  1. Concentrate on what you want and not on the possible opinions of others
  2. Write down what you are afraid of and put this sheet of paper into a box, then forget about it
  3. Be aware of the fact that humans who might knock you down don't deserve that you shut up
  4. Remember that your voice is as relevant as other humans' voices; then speak out what you wish to convey
  5. Imagine yourself acting in a way you would like to act and follow these pictures or
  6. Just stop thinking and start acting
